US De Minimis rule change 29 August 2025
We want to make you aware of a significant change to U.S. import regulations that will affect any customers from the United States that places an order with Newgate Simms.
What’s Changing?
Effective August 29, 2025, the U.S. is eliminating the “$800 De Minimis rule” for all countries.
What was the De Minimis rule?
The De Minimis rule previously allowed low-value packages (under $800) to enter the U.S. duty-free with minimal customs paperwork. This policy helped keep shipping costs low and transit times fast for e-commerce and personal shipments.
What does this mean for our customers?
From 29 August 2025, all packages sent to the U.S., regardless of their value, will be subject to a full customs clearance process and may incur duties, taxes, and fees. This may lead to higher costs and longer transit times for your order. Newgate Simms cannot accept liability for any extra changes incurred due to the changes in the De Minimis rule. You/the customer are responsible for any extra costs getting your order through US customs. Sorry, we have to enforce this rule to stay profitable.

Be aware that shipments to the U.S. may now be subject to additional charges and possible delays at customs. The change in the U.S. De Minimis rule has made all packages, even low-value ones, subject to customs duties and taxes.

Accurate documentation: It’s vitally important to provide complete and accurate customs declaration for every package. Newgate Simms will prepare the necessary documentation and we might need further information from you following your order and before it can be dispatched.
